Progress
I was 10 with my right knee
opened on a sprinkler head
as a football floated above
clouds of toxic Covina dust.

Angels topping trees,
Angels squeezing sky,
Angels altering photos of
every who, and what, and why.

I was 31 with my car folded
around an Anaheim power
pole as an officer tucked me into
the back of a black and white.

I was 52 with my upper lip
carrying puckers of cancer
almost down to my chin as I
slapped sunscreen on my life.

Angels unscrolling planets,
Angels ploughing rocks,
Angels towing God around
and putting him up on blocks.
