Secrets of a Summer Night

Who knew that dark vault,
drilled in with twinkles…
      her first song on a 4th of July
            blanket awaiting greater darkness
                  and greater, louder lights…
held all the astronomers’
weird words and diagrams
      and laser stick’s appointments,
            apparent touches on what might
                  or might not be:

                        kinetic behavior
accretion disks
                              viscosity
            thermal instability
                  opacity
      accretion columns
                              cataclysmic variables
                                           and loose energy
      on a collision course.

Ah, child! Did you wish on that star?
