Along the River
Along the river's edge
a thunderstorm begins to swell
dark clouds rush down the canyon
a solid curtain of rain descends
Lightning cracks and thunder
booms and resounds off the canyon walls
the sky explodes as Thor cracks his mighty hammer
and splits heaven and earth
The river runs brown and turbid
with spattered rain and splattered mud
as the storm wall strikes our camp
We scurry for shelter
and hunker down low
in our windblown tent
as the storms drums beat
a symphony we listen
to the storm play and heaven's toss
An epoch tale from long ago
a story of battles won and lost
along the river
